Whooping cough or pertussis
Whooping cough is a cough that is caused by bacteria and is accompanied by fever, runny nose, persistent cough that makes people breathe harder. When breathing air into the lungs when coughing can produce distinctive sounds of high-pitched whooping. In the initial condition many people who do not have a fever, but a chronic cough that accompanies pertussis can last for weeks.
